Exide Pak Ltd.-Company Profile

The Company was incorporated in 1953 as a Private Limited Company as a subsidiary of Chloride Group plc; London, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of rechargeable lead acid batteries. Subsequently it was changed to a public limited company listed on the Karachi Stock Exchange in 1982. In the first quarter of 1987, Chloride Group disinvested its majority holding of the Company’s shares to a Netherlands based company and the later in turn sold its majority holding in the third quarter of 1991 to M/s. Hassan Ali Sons Group which is led by Mr. Arif Hashwani.

Exide is the leading manufacturer of a wide range of rechargeable batteries for various applications under the brand name “Exide” over which it has the sole proprietary rights in Pakistan. During the period of its operation, the Company has established a brand image for its quality products and efficient after sales service matching international standards set by the industry. The Company markets its products through a net work of main dealers spread throughout the country. The company enjoys the number one spot as a supplier of batteries to the original equipment assemblers in the country (for both automobiles and tractor). Exide also manufactures and supplies industrial batteries to WAPDA, Pakistan Telecommunication Corporation and the Pakistan Railways. Over the years the management of the Company has brought a change in the company’s policy to focus its three facets on - products development, market development and horizontal integration.

Immediately after the takeover in 1991 the new management of Exide brought under its umbrella Automotive Battery Company Limited as a subsidiary by taking over majority shareholding of that company in the end of 1991 as a first step towards its horizontal expansion program.

Automotive Battery Company Limited a listed company on the Karachi Stock exchange and manufactures of FB Hi Dash batteries a joint venture & technical collaboration with the Furrukawa Battery Company Limited Japan. After its coming under the management umbrella of Exide, the Companies fortunes turned around and it expanded its production capacity further. In 2009 the company was merged with and into Exide optimizing utilization of resources and man power to further improving the profitability of both companies.

With a view to diversify the business activities, Exide Pakistan Limited set up a Sulphuric Acid manufacturing plant at Port Qasim Industrial Area in 1998 to supply Sulphuric acid to Pakistan’s largest fertilizer manufacturers, and subsequently purchased all fixed assets of Pak Chemicals Limited in April 2003 with a view to expand production capacity of its chemical division, becoming the largest sulphuric acid manufacturers in the south of the country.

As a listed company, Exide has an impressive track record of its operational performance and overall management. Exide has honour of being nominated eight times by the Karachi Stock Exchange for its Top-25 Companies Award since listing. It has also bagged the Management Excellence Award of the Management Association of Pakistan four times so far.

Exide at present have four manufacturing locations viz; SITE Battery Plant at SITE Area, Hub Battery Plant at Hub Industrial Estate, SITE Chemical Plant at SITE area and a chemical plant at Eastern Industrial Zone at Bin Qasim.
