If you have owned a BMW before, the only way you can configure your phone with your iDrive infotainment system is to have an iPhone. That’s because so far, the infotainment system had the only Apple Carplay feature on it. But from now, the latest BMW iDrive 7.0 infotainment systems will also provide Android Auto wireless support.

For those who are wondering, basically Android Auto or Apple Carplay allows your infotainment system to be a smart device with Apple or Android interface functions. This means you can use the map, connect with people, listen to music, set reminders etc just as you would on your smartphone.

Usually, people prefer to use Android Auto or Apple Carplay in their infotainment systems because it is familiar, therefore, it is easier to use compared to standard infotainment systems.

However, for those wishing to use automotive infotainment systems, it is reported that the latest software also includes advanced maps, a voice assistant, Apple's digital key for  5-series sedan only, and the ability to personalize the infotainment system. , settings for comfort, functionality and security more than ever.

However, it is worth noting that not all vehicles in BMW will receive iDrive 7 upgrades. The vehicles to be upgraded include 2 Series Gran Coupe, 3 Series, 4 Series, 5 Series, 7 Series, 8 Series, X3, X4, X5, X6, X7 and Z4 Roadster.

Normally, all modern cars have both, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, in their infotainment systems, but BMW was one of the few carmakers left to be paired only with Apple Carplay. But now, with the wireless feature of Android Auto, BMW is not left behind.
